Modernization of the EU-Mexico Free Trade Agreement: A strategic advantage for Mexico
On may, after almost 10 years of negotiations, President Claudia Sheinbaum received the European Commission and the European Council in Mexico for the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement and the Interim Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union.
The signing of the treaty will expand market access for both parties, boost economic growth, and open new trade and investment opportunities in strategic sectors, with changes in agriculture, investment protection, and new provisions on sustainability and digital trade, although the agreement poses significant challenges.
