Mexico's trade diversification strategy: the role of CPTPP and other recent efforts
In a context of growing uncertainty in its relationship with the United States and in anticipation of the review of the USMCA, Mexico has intensified its trade diversification efforts, by strenghtening its relationships with existing partners, while seeking to maintain a delicate balance with its primary trading partner.
One of the most significant developments in recent months has been the ratification of the Protocol on the United Kingdom’s accession to the CPTPP, as well as the modernization of existing agreements, the establishment of new cooperation mechanisms, and the strengthening of high-level political dialogue.
However, trade diversification will not depend solely on the government’s foreign policy, but rather on the ability of companies to incorporate new suppliers or direct their imports to new markets.
