Energy self-sufficiency of 0.4.
Yucatán consumes more energy than it produces, so it imports energy from other regions of the country through the national electric system. Energy is expensive and unreliable, but there are plans to build two combined-cycle plants that will generate over 4,000 MW, potentially supplying the entire state, and the electrical grid is being modernized.
*Energy self-sufficiency divides production by energy consumption.
An index greater than one indicates the state has surplus energy, while an index less than one indicates the state does not produce enough energy.
Renewable energy projects
Wind,thermoelectric,andsolar.
Renewable energy currently represents only 12.5% of the state’s generation, but there is more wind and solar potential. A photovoltaic plant, “Nachi Cocom,” is being installed for the public transport electric system.
