Tamaulipas is the state with the highest electricity production in the country, accounting for about 10% of total production. There are plans to expand the state’s transmission networks.

*Energy self-sufficiency divides production by energy consumption.

An index greater than one indicates the state has surplus energy, while an index less than one indicates the state does not produce enough energy.

Renewable energy projects

Proyectos de energia renovable

Hydroelectric, thermoelectric, solar, or wind

6.5% of total energy production is hydroelectric, thermoelectric, solar, or wind energy.

Since 2021, the Program for Sustainable Energy Promotion and Use has been developed to accelerate the energy transition. Tamaulipas has high potential for wind and solar energy generation due to its geographic characteristics and solar irradiation. Green hydrogen production is also being evaluated. The state received a UN energy accreditation this year.
