Only 5% of the energy consumed in the state is renewable, but 66% of its energy production is renewable, mainly from the Mazatepec and Necaxa hydroelectric plants.
It has good electrical infrastructure, making it feasible to generate more infrastructure for renewable energy transmission. There is potential for greater solar generation due to high solar irradiation and wind farms in the eastern and southeastern areas.
